Our first talk of the autumn took place at the Methodist Church in Bishop Auckland on 1st September. Our speaker was Kathryn Hume of Forget-Me-Not and the title of her talk was 'Life in Flowers'. This followed her career to current times where she runs a varied business. At the same time Kathryn created four stunning and very different arrangements. Below are the finished articles followed by a gallery of the arrangements in progress.

This display had been prepared in advance and showed use of a mirror and a glue gun to attach plants, greenery, and loose items from the garden to it to form a display. This was enhanced by being positioned alongside things found in a garden such as bark.
The first creation was a pot-au-fleur created with a shallow metal pail full of living plants such as the beautiful orchid as well strategically positioned grasses and cut flowers.

The next arrangement was created using a shallow bowl with a variety of pink flowers and foliage including anthurium, roses, and a protea. The colour combination was magnificent.
The final arrangement was using a terracotta pot, double-lined with small lemon-scented bin bags so that water was retained. This display used three stems of corkscrew hazel to make a tall tripod structure. Various greenery, grasses, and a selection of white flowers were used to create a stunning display. The final terracotta pot arrangement that one lucky member won in a short quiz.
