On 25th April Peter S led the Frosterley walk. The day was bright and sunny, if a little chilly.

The walk started at Frosterley Station and visited the area around the  Village Hall to look at examples of Frosterley Marble and the nearby archaeological site of the 8th Century St Botolph's Church. Passing through the churchyard of St Michael of All Angels and the village the party followed a field path to the intersection of the old Bishopley Branch line, towards the west end of Harehope Quarry. 

After visiting the Harehope Gill mine site, the route picked up the formation of the old railway line towards Bishopley and White Kirkley and explored the remaining architecture and remnants of the quarrying history. 

Passing under the road bridge at White Kirkley, the party walked through "Rocky Glen" before reaching the site of the old Bollihope Smelt Mill. A short return took it to a steep stairway and fields above the valley. Passing through the extensive remains of Bishopley Quarry the walk continued to Bridge End and the Railway Station just beyond.
