Our visit in June was to Hannah's Meadow in Baldersdale, the meadow is pasture land farmed by the late Hannah Hauxwell, who lived 'off-grid' and farmed in a completely natural way. Hence the land, uncontaminated by pesticides or artificial fertilisers, supports a vast array of wild flowers and plants amongst the grasses that were used for haymaking. The land also leads to a field centre providing education for visiting schoolchildren and the banks of one of the reservoirs that line the valley bottom. We were also fortunate to encounter a Common Lizard on the boardwalk leading to Hannah's Barn, the on-site information and interpretation centre.
