Although our first walk of the New Year was hastily rearranged on 11th January, the trip found a good day and a mud free walk around Stanhope. Beginning at the ever convenient Durham Dales Centre, we took a pavement walk up Crawleyside Bank to the intersection with Stanhopeburn lane and followed it to turn, and ascend, across the fell, to Crawley Edge. A partly cloudy day afforded views to Stanhope below, from Crawley Edge. The descent down Union Lane placed us back on Front Street, before descending again to Bond Isle and a continuation, right, to the The Butts, where we picnicked. A further half hour's walk returned the party to the Dales Centre. Another good day with good company.
