Welcome to Our SiteWorks Website
Our SiteWorks website has been in use for over a year now and many of our members have praised the content and layout. Both are far superior to what was possible with our old website software. Our editors and authors have been invited to join us to continue updating their group pages and some are doing a brilliant job. If you are a GL and you would like to be able to edit your own page then training is available upon request with a quick start editing pack.
Contact Pam via the Contacts page to get started and get your site login details.
SiteWorks is a WordPress theme developed by the u3a SiteWorks Team of volunteers. We recommend you watch the Siteworks Alpha overview video on YouTube to see a demonstration of editing a site.

Your group pages
This website is publicly available on the Internet. It is our u3a's shop window. Your group can be seen by everyone everyone in the world including your members, others in u3a, and by people who are interested in your topic but don’t know about u3a. It is therefore important that the information is kept up to date and interesting.
Group leaders should contact the Website Team to request updates, alternatively they, or a group member, can become a Website Editor or Author and make the necessary changes themselves.
Safeguarding
What you write on your page(s) is visible to the whole world, and you must protect personal information like members' addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. All of these personal details are protected by the way that the site has been set up but you must not include such details in your texts. We use first names only, sometimes with the first letter of the surname if there are two or more people with the same name. e.g. Sue B, Sue F, and Sue M.
Add more to your page:
The Siteworks team have put together an Editing Guide for Authors that has been created for members who have no experience at all of WordPress but there is also a Learning Guide for Administrators. There are also comprehensive User Guides on the SiteWorks Web Site along with a lot of other useful information such as the latest news, FAQs, and how to access the Help Desk. Face-to-face or Zoom training sessions are also available as required.
You have many more features available to you with the new website and they are so easy to use after a little practice. Please do take a look at the pages on our own site for some inspiration. During training you will be shown a variety of pages from Pioneer sites around the country. You can now easily add: -
- Photos of your members being active to add interest to your page although you must get permission of any member to put their photo online.
- What about photos of things related to your group's activity? The Website Team can help find images that do not infringe copyright if you need assistance.
- Avoid having too much text on your group page by adding an Event with details of an upcoming event or activity or a Post (like a blog) to organise information about a particular meeting, trip, or competition that has already taken place. Posts are also a great way to tell everyone what your group has been up to and to share lots of member photos in a gallery or a slider.
- Events will appear below your group description under the heading 'Forthcoming Events'. The event will automatically be removed when the date has passed.
