Technology is all around us and it can seem scary if you don't have even a basic understanding of today's connected world. There are many ways you can learn about technology and in this group you can find lots of resources. Some will answer questions like 'What's a?' and others are 'How to' tools. Some are generic and suitable for everyone and others are device-specific for users of Windows, Android, or Apple. Today everyone needs to be able to use a mobile device for telephone calls and texts and to take a digital photo. Everyone should be able to use a mobile or fixed device to receive and send emails with and without attachments and to access the Internet to find information.
To make it easier for you to find what you need you will find sections below covering general computing and Windows, Android, and Apple-specific topics with lots of short videos. Please click on the subject area that interests you and follow the instructions on that page. Most of the videos are on a commercial platform called YouTube and you will see ads. Be patient while they run or click the word 'Skip' when it comes up on the screen.

None of us are experts in everything these days and my advice to you is to learn what you need to learn or want to learn in order to do the things that you need or want to do. When used effectively technology enriches our lives. It gives us access to vast quantities of information at the touch of button. It can help us to do things more quickly and easily. It can be used to keep in contact with family and friends. It can entertain us, and so many more things.

Click on the headings to access the materials in each section.
General Computing
All computing devices have some things in common. The top section of this page covers some basic computing principles and terminology. You will learn what an operating system is, and a browser, and a search engine. This learning is mainly short animated videos.
The 2nd section of the page is about how to use our website, how a network works, and how to stay safe online. These are articles and tutorials.
Windows Desktops & Laptops
If you use a Windows desktop or laptop computer then this section is for you. It covers how to use Windows 10 and Windows 11 but also directs you to the Microsoft Windows site where you can check if the Windows 11 operating system is an option for you and give you a download link. This section also covers the Windows filing system and how to find files and folders on your computer.
Most videos are short but there is one very long one that covers many features of Windows. In this one the module titles are shown in the time bar so you can navigate to what you want rather than watching it all every time you want to learn something.
Android Phones & Tablets
In this section are videos specifically about Android products. There are many models of Android phones and tablets around including the well-known Samsung brand. Basically anything hand-held that isn't an i-something is an Android.
Every Android phone and tablet user needs to know how to use the phone, how to text, and how to take pictures. They also need to know how to check email and how to surf the web and tablet users also need to be able to do just these last two things. There is very little difference between using an Android tablet and an Android phone so if you can complete a task on one device then you can do it on the other.
Apple iPhone
In this section are some videos specifically about iPhone products. This is a series called iPhone Tips for Seniors.
Every iPhone user needs to know 5 things; how to use the phone, how to text, how to check and respond to email, how to take pictures, and how to surf the web. Master these 5 things and using your iPhone becomes a pleasure not a chore. Once you master the basics then there are many more features on your iPhone that you can explore.
Apple iPad
In this section you will find some videos specifically about iPad products. These are from a series called iPad Tips for Seniors. They are from the same trainer as the iPhone series.
Master the basics and using your iPad becomes a pleasure not a chore. There are then many more features you can explore.
